In the summer of 2018, Bird Closet produced a series of three billboards located at the entrance to the village of Bethel on State Route 125. The form and content of the billboards emerged out of Bird Closet’s collage practice, and were created with paper, wheatpaste, and latex paint on recycled billboard vinyl. Masked Bird Closet participants publicly installed and deinstalled these ephemeral works, intervening on a space typically reserved for advertising while at once playfully and sincerely announcing Bird Closet’s presence with poetic provocations.
